Retailing at $199.99, the new JLab Epic Lab Edition True Wireless Earbuds are the most expensive earbuds JLab has ever released — even pricier than something like the AirPods Pro, which often retail around $170. So, are they worth it? And more importantly, who are they really for?
First impressions matter, and right out of the box, the build quality stands out. The earbuds come in a premium zinc alloy case that feels far more durable and luxe than the plastic case of something like AirPods. It supports USB-C charging as well as wireless charging, sitting upright on its grippy rubber base. Inside the box, you’ll also find a USB-C cable and five additional silicone and foam earbud tips, ensuring a snug fit for most ears.
Let’s start with who shouldn’t buy these: if top-tier noise cancellation is your priority, these may not be the best fit.
But if you’re someone who cares deeply about audio quality, the Epic Lab Editions deliver big. The hybrid dual-driver system — a 10mm dynamic driver for deep bass and a Knowles balanced armature for mids and highs — offers a rich, layered sound experience. Coming from AirPods Pro 2, the difference was immediate. The single driver Airpod pros simply cannot compete with the dual driver setup of the Jlabs. Lyrics sounded clearer, highs were more detailed, and the bass was punchy and immersive. It genuinely felt like rediscovering favorite songs.
They can be a little tricky to position securely at first, but once they’re in, they stay put. Through the JLab app, you can also choose from different sound profiles: JLab Signature, Knowles Preferred, and Bass Boost. I prefer the Bass Boost for music and the Knowles Preferred when watching movies.
If sound quality is your top priority, these earbuds are a fantastic value for under $200 and I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys listening to music or watching movies with earbuds.
Moving forward, I know I’ll be reaching for the JLab Epic Lab Editions more than my other earbuds — the sound quality is simply that much better and I think they are an amazing value.
